Start with how long you are away
A trip of a few days rarely needs more than a day pass. Stays of two weeks or more are usually cheaper on a fixed data bundle that lasts the whole trip.
Match data to how you use the phone
- Maps, messages and email: about 500MB per day
- Photos, social feeds and short video: 1GB to 2GB per day
- Streaming, video calls or sharing to a laptop: 3GB per day or more
Day pass or fixed data
Day passes give you a daily allowance that resets every morning, which suits short stays and unpredictable days. Fixed data bundles give you one pot of data for the entire trip and cost less per gigabyte. Both are prepaid, so there is no bill waiting for you at home.
When to add more
Running low is never a problem. Buy a top up plan for the same destination and install it alongside the first one. Your phone can hold several eSIM lines, and you simply switch on the one you need.
A note on speed tiers
Faster tiers cost a little more and matter most for streaming and laptop sharing. For maps, messages and email, the standard tier is plenty.
